This may just be the strangest news you read today. According to reports, Rati Agnihotri and her husband Anil Virwani have been booked in a case of electricity theft of 46.98 lakh rupees. The two have allegedly tampered with the electricity meter of their Worli residence, something that is said to have been going on since April 2013.
This, apparently, was noticed by the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) when an engineer visited the house. According to PTI, the two have not paid for 1,77,647 units of electricity.
Rati Agnihotri and her husband have been named as the accused in an FIR registered at Worli police station. While the actress wasn’t available for comment, TOI quotes her husband as saying:
Neither me nor Rati nor my son Tanuj is in Mumbai right now. I was shocked when I learnt about the matter this afternoon. There has been some misunderstanding and I will address the issue when I return to the city. We have been living in this apartment building for nine or ten years and nothing of this sort has happened before. I am saddened that I was not given a chance to explain. The officials arrived and said they wanted to see the house so I called two of my staff members and allowed them in. I am completely taken by surprise.
