It’s hard to think of a Bollywood film in recent times that feels as jinxed as Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif‘s Jagga Jasoos (except, perhaps, Shuddhi – which never even ended up happening). Jagga Jasoos has been over three years in the making, and has gone through the lead pair’s alleged break-up, make-up, and break-up again. It’s also apparently suffered through delays because of shoot date clashes (Bombay Velvet) and the need to re-shoot certain scenes.
However, it seemed like all was going to be fine when it was announced that the release date was locked in for April 7th, 2017. But now, it looks like they may need to push the release further.
Exams for students have been delayed because of ongoing state assembly polls in certain states, and will now be between March 9th and April 29th. This is, of course, a bit problematic for the makers of Jagga Jasoos as students would be a substantial chunk of their intended audience. They are therefore contemplating shifting the release date of the film, but only if they get a better date.
Anurag Basu made the announcement on Twitter about contemplating a delay:
#JaggaJasoos is a Family Holiday film
Since exams r pushed at most of the places
We r contemplating the delay
Only IF v get a better Date— anurag basu (@basuanurag) February 19, 2017
He does note, however, that the team is still getting ready for an April 7th release:
But for now team is getting ready for 7th April.

As you can imagine, many fans weren’t too happy about this, given just how much the film has been delayed. One fan in particular expressed disappointment, saying it was “disrespect, dishonesty” and “unprofessional”. Anurag Basu seemingly lashed out at this fan, telling her to ignore them: “Sorry to disappoint you… ignore us, you will not miss anything in life if you don’t watch Jagga Jasoos.”
@bombayseoul Sorry to disappoint you..Ignore us ,You will not miss anything in life if you dont watch Jagga Jasoos.

As you can imagine, the tweet has received some hate from fans:
