Artist Shilpy Gupta caught the pottery bug over 15 years ago, and there’s been no looking back. Having learned the craft from studio potters in the US in 2001, she moved to Bangalore where she fused her interest in oil painting with her newfound love, the pottery wheel. Throw in her spiritual connection to poetry, and you have what she calls “Poetry on Pottery”: laying fine brush work on clay canvases she shapes, paints, fires and glazes herself. Each piece is inspired by a couplet, often from the words of Buddha or the poet Rumi, as in this one:

You are inside me and You are outside me;
You are the tree and You are the wind that shakes it;
You are the light and You are the shadow.” ~ Rumi

Shilpy will be holding her first solo exhibition on April 1st and 2nd in Bangalore at the Shanthiroad Gallery. In the meantime, check out some of her work in the photos below and see more on her Facebook page.
