Did You Know: There’s A Bollywood Rip-Off Of ‘The Notebook’

The Notebook, which released more than a decade ago is considered one of the best romantic movies of all time. Based on the Nicholas Sparks bestseller, the movie is one of the few book adaptations which is considered better than the source material. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams‘s chemistry, that iconic kiss in the rain, dialogues like ‘if you’re a bird, I’m a bird‘ are all an integral part of pop culture now.

Bollywood decided to Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V this one and made a movie called Zindagi Tere Naam. It released in 2012 and had Mithun Chakraborty and Ranjeeta Kaur playing the role of the older couple and Aseem Ali Khan and Priyanka Mehta as their younger versions. And boy, the movie really sucks.

Zindagi Tere Naam

The Indian version doesn’t have the extremely ‘gif-ed’ sex scene and the acting is pretty atrocious. Many, many scenes (and the story) have been directly lifted from the original. The plagiarism is glaring and it’s pretty annoying that a good story has been made into something so bad.

There’s a Dia Mirza item number too and I swear I’ve never heard the song, ever.

What is this? Why are two old men annoying Dia and why are they wearing fur?
