Looks like this Snapchat controversy is not going to die down soon. It started with rumours that the CEO of the app, Evan Spiegel allegedly said that Snapchat is not for poor countries like India and Spain. Before we jump the gun, here’s some context – according to a report on Variety.com, an ex-employee, Anthony Pompliano, (who has been hired by Facebook, which owns Instagram, and has often been accused of copying Snapchat features) has filed a lawsuit against the company. In his statement, he revealed that during a meeting, he expressed concern that Snapchat was not taking off overseas. But, as per Anthony’s statement, Evan abruptly cut him off and said –

This app is only for rich people. I don’t want to expand into poor countries like India and Spain.

When contacted by Buzzfeed, a spokesperson from Snap.Inc has denied all these claims –

This is ridiculous. Obviously Snapchat is for everyone! It’s available worldwide to download for free.

But that hasn’t stopped people here from deleting Snapchat and downrating the app. Many countrymen are also abusing the CEO and the app in Google Play’s ‘Review’ section –

But the most problematic part of the entire controversy is that many people are abusing Evan’s girlfriend, supermodel Miranda Kerr for her partner’s alleged statement.

These are some comments below a photo she posted on her Instagram –

Come on guys, abusing a person who has nothing to do with the topic of discussion is just not right.
