First kisses are always such ‘celebrated’ events right? All our rom-coms, TV shows made for teens and even books written about/for them describe the ‘first kiss’ as something magical. For example, in The Princess Diaries, Mia really wants her foot to pop when she’s kissed for the first time, and is really disappointed when that doesn’t happen. Remember?
So how big is the whole deal? Are first kisses as amazing as pop-culture wants us to believe? We reached out to 11 women to describe their current relationship with the person they first kissed and got varied answers. Check them out!
1) This ‘friendly’ liaison –
We were friends when the kiss happened, and several years later, we’re still friends. There was never anything romantic between us.
2) International love –
I was barley 16 when I had my first kiss. It was with an Iranian boy whose father was in the Consulate. We kissed maximum 4 times after which I went on a holiday, came back and emailed him saying it was over. He was in Iran at that time. He got back, sent me hate messages. I have not even thought of him till the moment. Good time, good times.
3) This story which is basically a movie script waiting to be made-
My first real kiss was when I was 14 years old. I feel like I’ll always be grateful to him for making my first kiss magical and memorable. It was all sorts of perfect! We dated for a bit, broke up then decided to “stay friends” – which, as anyone worth their salt will tell you, is a lie:
1. Exes can’t be friends
2. Ek ladka aur ladki kabhi dost nahi ho sakte.
It’s been over a decade since I know him now and over the years we’ve gone through the whole 9 yards: We’ve been partners, exes, friends, confidants, fuck buddies, back-up plans, comfort blankets, drunk callers, families…
Over time we have definitely drifted apart and grown up as very different people. I haven’t actually seen him in a while, but we did catch up on text last month. Current status? Cordial, I guess. But you know, just because we can’t be friends doesn’t mean we aren’t.
4) This smart girl who had deal with an egoistical prick –
No contact whatsoever, he disappeared from my life. It’s because I didn’t have sex with him so he deleted me from BBM (Blackberry Messenger #YouRemember?). Later he added me on BBM again, but this was during my college final exams, I remember it was a psychology paper next day, so asked me when are we meeting next. I didn’t reply the same night because I was studying, so I think that hurt his ego and he deleted me from BBM again.
5) This Gossip Girl storyline –
The first person I kissed cheated on me with my cousin. I was a teenager and as you can imagine, I haven’t seen him since.
6) “My mom talks to him more than I do” –
The guy I first kissed? Hmm… I think we are sort of friends, probably only in my head. My mom is really fond of him, but I’m sure she doesn’t know the real details. They talk more than we do :/
7) This one obviously didn’t end well –
I don’t talk to him, he’s a loser.
8) Ideal scenario –
We are courteous and cordial. Like we wish each other on birthdays and chat here and there.
9) Stuck in love, the painful edition –
Well, my braces got stuck to his lips, separating us had become extremely painful (quite literally). We didn’t do anything after that, also we were 13 so it wouldn’t last anyway!
10) This one kissed an idiot, obviously –
We’re not in touch at all, he was my first boyfriend who broke up with me because I refused to have sex with him. It’s been years since that happened, and he often tries to reach out, but I don’t respond.
11) But finally, in this dark, bad world, here’s an answer that might make you believe in ‘magic’ again –
Current status: I am going to marry him. 🙂
Honestly, it doesn’t matter how your first kiss was, it’s the person you kiss last who is the important one. I read this in an Archies card.
