There’s no doubt that Voldemort is one of the most interesting characters in the Harry Potter universe. While the book and movie series have primarily focused on the return of Voldemort’s reign of terror and his death by the hands of Harry Potter, I’m sure there are a lot of people who really want to see how Tom Marvolo Riddle turned into the most dangerous wizard of all time.

Filmmaker and editor Gianmarie Pezzato has done just that. He is making an origin story for the Dark Lord titled – Voldemort: Origins of the Heir. The fanmade movie might release this year by independent film company Tryangle Films. The film is based on Tom Riddle’s journey after graduating from Hogwarts. The murder of Hufflepuff heir Hepzibah Smith (which was discussed in detail in the book Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince) is also an important plot point along with Tom learning about horcruxes and transforming into Lord Voldemort.

A new addition to this story is Grisha Mac Laggen, the heir of Gryffindor, a character introduced in this film who has not been mentioned in J.K. Rowling‘s original works. While the trailer looks super interesting and very accurate to the original source material, the contents of this film will not be considered canon as it’s not a part of the official franchise. At the beginning of the trailer, the makers have specified that this is more of a fan-service, with no intention of gaining profit. In a statement to Buzzfeed, the creators of Voldemort: Origins of the Heir have said that they will release the film on YouTube, as per an agreement with Warner Bros.

Canon or not, I can’t wait to see this one!
