Amazon Prime’s newest original show Inside Edge has been grabbing eyeballs for its gritty portrayal of the cricket world and its dark underbelly. Richa Chadha plays the role of a superstar actress who owns a cricket team and it is being rumoured that her character is based on the life of  Preity Zinta. While the team has denied all the rumours, PZ is not too impressed with the show and the way they’ve decided to showcase Richa’s character either.

In a recent interview with BollywoodLife, Preity spoke about how a woman is always portrayed differently on these shows, and especially when someone’s playing an actress.

It breaks my heart that a woman has to go through all of this, and me, with all my success and hard work and everything, I also have to go through it. People will make shows, right? They’ll make a show on TV and say, ‘Oh, it’s based on cricket.’ They’ll show the woman as the whore! Right! They’ll always show woman as the whore, they’ll never have the balls to show something else. But it’s the most accepted, ‘beat the woman,’ ‘live off her,’ ‘Isko woh victim bana do.’ That’s the psychology of men.

She went on to add that she wishes her friends aka Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Sidhwani would’ve asked her for inputs.

I don’t want to say much because when my BOOK comes out…honestly, I wish, if genuinely the idea was to make something, then I wish…, like I am actress, right? If I play any role, I research it. Filmmakers research it. It’s made by my friends, they could’ve called me and asked me for some inputs. But, it’s okay people want to make some weird fantasy of theirs…it’s fine.

She’s not very pleased and feels that what’s being shown on the show is fairly inauthentic.

But one thing I will ask you as a woman, genuinely, please ask these makers, were they in that bed seeing who’s screwing who? Please ask them as to how have they come on these plot points and why are they doing this? Just ask them that question, like what is your inspiration for all this? Just by showing muck, if I wanted to talk about you, I wanted to bitch about you that muck doesn’t work, I think authenticity…anyway I am very irritated with it, right now.
