Tried & Tested: Dip Powder Nails

Dip Powder or SNS nails showed up on my Instagram feed one day and then just suddenly became all the rage in the beauty world. So, what are dip nails? Well for starters, it’s a simpler, quicker and healthier nail application option compared to the usual acrylic and liquid gel. But gives you the same finish and look as a gel manicure.

The Process

First; a bond polish is applied to the whole nail to make sure the colour sticks. Next comes a base coat that’s applied to 3/4 of the nail. Then, you dip your nail into a primer-like natural powder and once again apply another coat of the bond polish. Once that’s done, dip your nail into the powder colour of your choice, tap the excess powder off. Then apply another coat of the base and again go in for another dip into the powder. FINALLY, you brush on one last coat of the base and let your nails air dry.

The Verdict

My experience with these nails, did not end up being half lengthy as the application for them went. And I ended up quite disappointed. Although this process won’t hurt your nails, it doesn’t really last longer than traditional gel or gel polish. In fact, I feel the opposite. My nails starts chipping and peeling off within the second week; whereas my gel mani lasts a month and more!

All in all, at the moment I’m perfectly content with my mani. And if you are too, there’s no reason shouldn’t give up your OG manicuring ways. But if you’re itching to give this a shot, then make sure you have as minimal wear-and-tear.

Cool? Yes. Worth it? Not so much.
