This Korean Trick Is The Secret To Long Lasting Makeup

We’ve all been there: You’ve applied a fresh face of makeup at 10:00 am, only to find it sliding off your face after a few hours. Although primers and setting sprays work well to keep your face in place, there’s a weird beauty trick that involves things you already have in the house.

Called jamsu, this beauty hack is a favourite in Korea. Essentially, it involves dunking your face in a bowl of water after you’ve finished applying your base makeup. Although it sounds weird, this little trick is apparently the secret to a smooth, matte face that won’t smudge off.

If you are keen to try this out, here’s what you need to do. First, swipe on your base products – these include primers, foundations and concealers. Next, liberally apply a thick layer of loose powder on your face. Whilst translucent powders are preferred, you can use any baby powder too.

Once you are through looking like a ghoul, submerge your face into a bowl of cold water for about 30 seconds. If your skin is on the drier side, stay under for no longer than 15 seconds. Finally, pat (don’t rub!) your face dry with a soft towel and finish off the rest of your makeup routine.

As insane as this method sounds, it actually locks down your makeup for hours on end. The powder works to soak up any oil, whilst the cold water seals your base in. Although the process is messy, it can be a saviour for people with oily skin or those who live in humid climates.
