Kiran Shroff, the producer of Nawazuddin Siddiqui‘s next film, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz had a difficult experience with the CBFC recently. Nothing new, you’ll say! Alunkrita Girdhar faced it for Lipstick Under My Burkha, Abhishek Chaubey went through the drill for Udta Punjab, and so do many other filmmakers.
Kiran had to reportedly go through a lot of humiliation when she submitted her film for certification to the board. The film was given an A certificate along with 48 cuts – which does not make sense because if the film is for adults, the cuts are not requited anyway. But that’s not all! During the process, Kiran was slut shamed for making the kind of film she made. She was allegedly asked how she could make “such a film” being a woman. Another member of the board reportedly went as far as questioning her clothing choices, and indirectly calling her promiscuous.
Kiran chose to remain silent all throughout this incident because unfortunately, the producers have to put up with such humiliation. Sadly, people with authority have such regressive mentality in our country!
