Popular TV actress Divyanka Tripathi sent out a series of powerful tweets on Independence Day. Angered by reports of a 12-year-old school girl getting raped on her way to school for an Independence day event in Chandigarh, Divyanka blasted the lack of security provided to women and the general apathy to such sensitive matters.

The actress tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi in some of the tweets, asking him to do something about the horrible way women are treated in the country. She also expressed how afraid she is of having a daughter in a world where there is absolutely no safety for women.

“Why is there a ‘Save Daughters’ campaign? I don’t particularly want a son, but I’m now afraid of having a daughter. What will I tell her? Why did I bring her from heaven to this hell?”

“Dear Mr. Narendra Modi, please include such rapists under your Swachh Bharat Abhiyan – Clean India campaign, we can still live in garbage, but we can’t live in the fear of such wolves.”

“Sir Narendra Modi, please come up with such strong punishment for rapists, that they’re afraid to even look at women with wrong intentions, I have faith in you, please do something.”

Kudos to Divyanka for speaking up on such an important matter. We hope this helps in bringing change.
