The last couple of months have been rather turbulent for ace comedian Kapil Sharma. He has been embroiled in one controversy after the other – right from when he had a fight with his good friend and colleague Sunil Grover onboard a flight. There were reports that he hurled abuses and flung a shoe at him. Post that, the TRPs of his show were at an all time low and Kapil’s health took a toll on him. So much, that there were multiple cancellations of shoots and he kept stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, Ajay Devgn etc. waiting for hours.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Kapil opened up about the incidents and said a lot of it highly fabricated.

I admit there was a problem. And I’ve paid a heavy price for it. But what was reported was grossly exaggerated and almost entirely fabricated. It was said that I asked that food be served to me first on the flight and that I got angry and I threw a shoe at Sunil. You’ve known me for some years. Do you think I am capable of such behaviour?

He then revealed that the took to alcohol and developed a drinking problem post the controversies.

The incident affected me deeply. I started drinking heavily. It was so unnecessary. And so painful to me. Sunil Grover, Chandan, Ali Asgar are all my friends. How could this happen?

Kapil also stated that he wished he came out and clarified the matter instead of laying low.

When I am misunderstood I clam up. But now I realise it was a mistake to not put forward the truth. A section of the media took advantage of my silence. Painted me as an arrogant brat. All these stories of shoe-throwing and tantrums were started in a section of the digital media.

Well, we’re happy he’s come forth now and cleared the air. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope he comes back to entertain us super soon! :)
