How I Met Your Mother

How I Met Your Mother is one of the most popular television shows. Despite the disappointing season finale, the series is embedded forever in pop-culture, especially the catchphrases of narcissistic womanizer Barney Stinson. Played to perfection by Neil Patrick Harris, Barney was the break-out character from the very strong ensemble cast even though everyone agrees that he was quite the asshole. But what if he wasn’t?

As we all know, the real story of HIMYM wasn’t really about meeting the mother, but more about Ted and Robin’s relationship. Even in the finale, after it’s revealed that the mother has died, Ted’s children ask him to ask Aunt Robin out because the 9 seasons have hammered that into everyone’s heads. Anyway, the point is that there might be a chance that Barney wasn’t all that bad, but was shown in a certain light because Ted was the narrator of this story.

Now Ted and Barney are best friends of course, but we can’t deny the fact that Ted would subconsciously try to glorify Barney’s faults and undermine his goodness, because he too was in love with Robin.
