When you live in a humid climate like ours, chances are that your pores are going to get clogged with sweat and dirt. This can often result in acne – and not just of the face variety. Back acne, or bacne, is a surprisingly common skin woe that troubles most people. Apart from sweat, these breakouts can also be caused by ill-fitting clothing and certain hair products.

Although topical creams and frequent showers can reduce the issue, the best remedy for this type of acne is undoubtedly a back facial. Like a regular facial, these treatments decrease active breakouts and help prevent future ones.

The first step in the process is proper cleansing, which is sometimes aided with a sonic cleansing brush. This is usually followed by exfoliation to get rid off dead skin and build-up. Whilst some spas may use physical exfoliants like scrubs and AHA-based products, those containing glycolic acid are the right ones for the job.

Post exfoliation, the aesthetician may open up your pores with steam. This will make the ensuing extraction process easier and a lot less painful. To calm down any inflammation and replenish the body’s moisture, a soothing mask is usually applied. Once the mask is rinsed off, you are good to go. However, if you do have a particularly bad bout of bacne, the aesthetician may leave on a targeted treatment or serum.

Considering that our backs are hard to reach, these facials definitely seem worth it. Apart from knocking out painful blemishes, these treatments also work to give us smoother and softer skin. Plus, they give us an excuse to buy more halter tops!
