Melissa Schuman, former member of the 2000s’ girl band Dream, has accused Nick Carter, a member of the famous boy band Backstreet Boys of sexual assault. In a recent blog post, which is called Melissa Explains It All, she claimed that Nick assaulted her when she was 18 and he was 22.

Describing the incident in lengthy detail, she wrote that she was invited to Nick’s apartment during the shoot of the movie – The Hollow, which they both starred in, so she took a friend along. The apartment was sparsely furnished and Melissa and her friend were joined by Nick and his friend. Nick then invited her to his office to make her listen to some new music he was working on and this is when they started kissing. He was aware that she was a virgin and that she held to religious conservative christian values. Melissa was vocal about this. Everyone knew about this, including those who represented her.

Due to her beliefs, she refused to go further than kissing and this is when he reportedly became aggressive and allegedly raped her despite her protests. Melissa has given her account of the sexual violence she faced in her blog. She also wrote about the negative repercussions on her career because she avoided engaging with him afterwards. This revelation is her contribution to the online movement for sexual assault victims all over the world – #MeToo.
