In an interesting turn of events, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has decided to issued an advisory asking TV channels not to air condom ads which could be ‘indecent and inappropriate for viewing by children’ during the daytime. The advisory wants to ensure “strict adherence to the provisions contained in the Cable Television Networks Rules, 1994”. Condom ads have especially come under fire as the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) received a lot of complaints regarding the suggestive material of the ads. As per the directive – “indecent, vulgar, suggestive, repulsive or offensive themes or treatment shall be avoided in all advertisements.”
Here’s the PDF of the statement.
I mean, seeing our population, I think knowledge about condoms and safe sex should be mandatory, but no go ahead, let kids believe that children come from the sky.
The Internet (Twitter especially) had some thoughts about this –
Happy to not have condom ads between 6pm and 10pm if you actually told our kids about condoms everyday from 8am till 3pm in school. Deal?

No condom ad on TV from 6am to 10pm because kids watch TV at that time
If your kid watches so much TV maybe you needed that condom in the 1st place

No condom ads on Indian TV from 6am-10pm because why learn about birth control or protected sex when you can have Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, HPV, Herpes, HIV, an abortion or an unwanted baby?

According to the latest statistics in India, a child is sexually abused every 15 minutes, but, at least, we’ve saved them from the painful terror of having to watch condom ads from 6am-10pm, I am so relieved. Thank you.

in response to the I&B ministry’s directive, let us all try and make one condom-related thing trend every single day between 6 am and 10 pm

Yes, because condoms are terrible. Who needs family planning & safe sex is overrated. And yes let’s win a GOLD medal in the only sport we can beat China at! https://t.co/En6NcK3tz1

Condom ads are the same as Katrina Kaif trying to eat the fuck out of a mango for a soft drink ad or a deodorant perpetrating bullshit about women’s sexual responses. If guidelines have to be issued, they should be on type of content. Not the brand or product.

Please post your Sanskari Condom Ad ideas (pics/videos) which aren’t vulgar and wouldn’t offend IB Ministry and @smritiirani ji. Only serious and Swachh entries would be RTd.

Smriti Irani banned condom ads on TV between 6 pm to 10 pm.
This is why Tulsi’s family was huge.
