Why You Need To Try Out Dermaplaning

Jyotika Udeshi

If you’ve been active on social media lately, you may have noticed images of women with a razor-like device on their faces. Before you wonder why these ladies are shaving their faces, hold your thoughts. Why? Because dermaplaning i.e. taking off the hairs on your face, is the latest skincare trend that’s gaining traction.

Essentially, this method is a form of physical exfoliation. The procedure involves using a sharp tool to gently scrape the surface of your skin. By doing so, all the dead and dry skin is sloughed off, along with the peach fuzz on your face.

(function(d, s, id) {  var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];  if (d.getElementById(id)) return;  js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;  js.src = ‘https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.11’;  fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

Although dermaplaning sounds bizarre, there are a multitude of benefits to it. Not only does it give you smoother skin, but also boosts collagen production to give you a plumped-up, youthful complexion. In addition, it allows your skincare products to penetrate better so that you can get the most out of them.

Whilst you can do the procedure with at-home tools like the Dermaflash, it’s best to first try it under the hands of a professional. The aesthetician may even apply a acid-based peel prior to dermaplaning to boost the exfoliation. If you are trying this at home, remember to cleanse your face and dry it properly before putting the tool to use. Whether you DIY or opt for an appointment, always follow the procedure up with a hydrating mask or serum, so as to prevent any irritation.
