In a year that made waves with one hit series after another, we were left gasping for more. With major cliff-hangers and insane production values, 2017 could be considered one of the best years for TV. Most of us have spent hours, if not days binge watching these series. We fell in love with some characters and were equally devastated when some of them were killed. Regardless, they still managed to put us through an emotional roller-coaster and it’s safe to say we’re hooked and can’t wait for more.

While 2018 already seems to be promising, let’s take a closer look at 10 TV series that had us going completely gaga this year.

1. Halt And Catch Fire Season 4

The final season of Halt And Catch Fire delivers on what the creators were aiming for all along. The series on a whole, took a more people oriented focus as compared to a story driven approach. To our surprise though, it works wonders for them as the cast delivers amazing performances. While the acting is off the charts the writing and direction is on point too. It brings a perfect end to the series.

2. Big Little Lies

If you’re a fan of dark comedy and you haven’t seen this, you’re missing out on something pretty epic. It’s set in the perfect little sea-side California town. As it moves along, slowly but steadily you uncover the stories of rivalry, deception and murder that begin to chip away at all the success and affluence. Big Little Lies has one the most powerful casts to ever grace a TV series and each of them deliver a powerful performance. With a crisp story line and amazing direction, it’s no wonder it won all those awards!

3. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

If you were a fan of the hit TV series Mad Men, then you’re going to love this one! Mrs. Maisel is like Mad Men but from the perspective of a young, vivacious, acid-tongued woman as compared to another mopey dude. With amazing dialogue and quirky characters, this series quickly grows on you and the underlying message becomes ever more clear.

4. Mindhunter

With most modern-day crime solving thrillers, it’s always about high-tech gadgets and teams solving the crime. Mindhunter however, deals with a more microscopic view of crime and culture that surrounds it. It focuses on just the facts and follows the early days of the FBI profiling team. The series draws you in and keeps you mesmerized with a tight script, fantastic view point and outstanding acting. If crime thriller’s are your cup of tea, then this one is a must watch!

5. Orphan Black Season 5

Lets just get this out of the way, Orphan Black isn’t everyone’s cup of coco. It has a rather cult following. But with season 5 delivering one of the best endings to a series, it’s impossible to not have it on this list. In order to understand this series, we highly recommend watching the previous seasons (binge alert!). Orphan black achieved what very few TV series in the genre have and it’s thrilling and conspiracy-laden to boot. Driven by it’s multi-dimensional female cast, it puts into perspective the issues that women face in society today.

6. Riverdale

Everyone had their concerns about Riverdale when the trailer first aired, it was based on one of our favorite comics after all. That thought was immediately put to a rest when it finally came out. Since episode one, we were hooked and kept wanting more. The story takes you down a winding road and keeps you invested, constantly guessing and asking the question ‘what’s going to happen next?’. Season 1 gave us major WTF moments and ended with, what led into a perfect season 2. With great acting that has us believing the perils of the character and the dark undertone, Riverdale came out as on of the more surprising series of 2017.

7. Feud

What do you get when you take Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange and pit them against one another? Well what you get is one hell of a drama series! Feud deals with the real life events that happened between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. It buys into the old Hollywood gossip, about who hated whom, who was a bully and who was a troll. Even though the series aims to redeem and clean up some tarnished entertainers, the stereotypes pointed out and the blatant misogyny cant helped to be overlooked and, is pretty consistent with everything going on right now.

8. Game Of Thrones Season 7

While we’re trying to go for a more unconventional list, it’s impossible to overlook GoT S7. This season had us holding our breath every episode and jumping out of our chairs, hurling out words we didn’t think we were capable of. Most importantly, it gave us the one thing we all wanted, DRAGONS! This season definitely delivered on the hype that it had built up and also answered many question we had (*cough cough*). The only downside is, we now have to wait till 2019!

9.  13 Reasons Why

13 Reasons Why is probably one of the most controversial series on this list. That being said, its story line, acting and the message behind it make it impossible to overlook. The underlying tone is obvious at first glance and as the story develops it becomes more evident. Once you look past the glamorization and the fact that it’s a TV series, you get to the ever prevalent problem of today’s society. It brings to light an issue that many people have but rarely talk about. While we may not think much about it, it definitely starts an important conversation.

10. Great News

This TV series quite clearly slipped under a lot of people’s radar. It’s just as funny and absurd as the other contenders like The Mindy Project and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, yet somehow managed to slip under everyone’s nose. It has the same creative team behind 30 Rock, so you know its definitely hilarious. We recommend you see this one if you haven’t already!
