Last year, Abhay Deol called out a number of celebrities for endorsing fairness creams. He pointed out the wrong example consciously set by them by promoting fairness, and in turn promoting the notion that “fair is beautiful”. (Not to forget, being fair can get you a job & success! *rolls eyes*)
Kangana Ranaut too, has gone on record to say that she doesn’t want to be associated with fairness cream brands, even if it means losing a lot of money. Now, Sushant Singh Rajput has followed suit and set an example by rejecting a deal worth Rs. 15 crores offered to him by a fairness cream brand. He told Mid-Day:
As responsible actors, it is our duty to not indulge in sending out incorrect messages. We should not, in any way, endorse or promote the ideology of preferring one skin tone over another.
