Karishma Govil , 30 Jan 2018

Every food lover is always on a never-ending quest for the best things to eat in whichever city it is that they’re in. Obviously, the thrill of stumbling upon food gems by yourself is pretty amazing, but what tends to make it easier is hearing or reading about these places from people who’ve already done the legwork for you. Enter MissMalini! We’ve curated a list of the 10 best dishes in the city, recommended by the best food scouters of Mumbai.

1. Shivesh Recommends: Macarons at Le 15 Cafe, Colaba

He says,

They’re one of the best I’ve ever had and are available in a lot of different interesting flavours. My favourite are lavender and passion fruit.

Price: ₹75 each

2. Bombay Bhukkad Recommends: Mutton Thali at Gavkari, Prabhadevi

…and just like that Vasudha started a Whatsapp group for Thali enthusiasts. I had heard that Gavkari from Pune had made it’s way to Mumbai, seemed like the perfect place to kickstart the thaali meetups. It was 1:45 PM by the time all 6 of us assembled at ‘Gavkari’. Between earnest yet amusing attempts at conversing in Marathi and cacaphonic laughter – the food arrived. We ordered quite a bit. Mutton Masala Thalis + Mutton Dry Fry Thali + Surmai Thali + Mutton Kharda + Mutton Kala Masala + Fried Fish + Bharli Vaangi + Countless Bhakris and Sol Kadhi. The food was quite good. My top picks – The Mutton Kala Masala + Pandhra Rassa + Fried Fish + Sol Kadhi. I must say, their Tambda Rassa needs a lot of work. Meanwhile if you craving a thali from a land-locked region I so proudly represent, “Gavkari” for sure is your best bet in these parts.
