Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s Padmaavat has finally released to generally positive reviews and great box-office collections. Many people though had a problem with the contents of the movie. While some showed their dissent by being violent, senseless and pathetic *cough Karni Sena cough*, some people took a normal, clear and healthy approach to let their concerns known. Swara Bhasker obviously falls in the second category.

The actress wrote an open letter to Sanjay Leela Bhansali as she felt strongly about the film. While she praised the actors and the director’s vision, she had a few problems with the movie which she specified. Swara said that she felt reduced to a vagina after the movie ended.

In an interview to DNA, the star of Padmaavat, Deepika Padukone was asked about this. Here’s what she said –

Let me put things in perspective. We are not endorsing jauhar. You must see the scene/practice in context to the period in which it was shown. And when you do that, you will realize, it’s so powerful. You do not feel like she is doing anything wrong. You want her to embrace the flames because she is going to be united with the man she loves.

Fair enough. Opinions and interpretations are often subjective. An open and healthy discussion on any topic should always be welcome. Abusing and trolling people shouldn’t.
