5 Reasons Why More And More Couples Are Opting For Smaller Weddings

When we think of an Indian wedding, the first thing that pops into our minds is a huge 5-day long affair that is seemingly never-ending. The idea for Indian weddings has always been ‘the bigger, the better’! It’s always referred to as the big, fat Indian wedding, and never the small, simple Indian wedding. Whether it’s a matter of pride or just a show for society, we Indians generally love taking marriages to a whole new level. But there are a few who don’t subscribe to that philosophy. Sure, we still have the huge wedding, but recently, a lot more couples have started opting for smaller, more intimate celebrations. Wondering why? Here are 7 reasons to help you understand this mind shift.

1. More Conscious Spending Habits

There’s no denying that weddings are an expensive affair. From hiring a wedding planner to paying for a location, the costs can quickly escalate beyond what was the expected budget. A lot of people just don’t want to spend that much money. They are also aware that the money can be put to better use and are fine with a relatively smaller wedding.

2. Socially And Environmentally  Conscious

Big weddings usually mean a lot of people, and with those numbers comes a slew of other problems. For example, catering for all those people. This, in turn, amounts to a lot of food and water getting wasted. Many socially aware couples have opted to have a smaller wedding because they do not wish to contribute to the waste and can’t stand the idea of the amount of garbage this could amount to.

3. Minimal And Simpler Aesthetics

Maybe it is a generational thing, or maybe it’s just a trend. The fact is, more and more people have developed a minimal aesthetic when it comes to their wedding. Doing things on a grand scale, with multiple functions and venues just doesn’t appeal to a segment of the younger generation anymore, which is why there is a shift in the wedding planning sphere.

4. Just Family And Close Friends

Who said a small and intimate wedding isn’t just as fun as a big one? A lot more people have chosen to having a smaller wedding with just their immediate family and close friends as they find it more meaningful. They find the idea of having this intimate little ceremony way better than having a thousand random guests and being so exhausted, you barely remember a thing about it.

5. Don’t Want To Deal With The Logistical Nightmare

With big weddings, come even bigger logistical demands. Most people just don’t want to deal with the hassle and coordination that comes with a wedding of epic proportions. Smaller weddings are less of a headache to deal with and are relatively easier to manage.
