If you live on your own and have to do all your chores yourself, in addition to your 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (who are we kidding? We mean 9 p.m.!) you end up with barely any time. We are either too busy, too lazy or simply too tired to bother about small tasks around the house. And by the time the weekend arrives, we’re left with a house that looks like a storm hit it. No one really likes a messy house, but how do you manage? Well, here are 7 tips that may just be what you’re looking for!

1. Make Your Bed

The first thing you should do in the morning is make your bed! It hardly takes a minute but making it a habit is something that will go a long way. Think of it as taking baby steps towards an ultimate goal, a clean house. Additionally, it always feels good to come back to a nice and clean bed.

2. Clear Your Closet, Bit By Bit

When you’re getting ready, take a second to browse through your closet. While looking for something to wear, we inevitably tend to glance over pieces that we don’t need, or are never going to wear. Take out these clothes as soon as you identify them and give them away to someone. This will lead to a gradual decluttering of your closest.

3. Make It A Habit To Wash Your Clothes Every Night

Sure, you’ve had a long day, but your clothes aren’t going to magically get laundered. It’s clear that you aren’t going to have to make the time. So, do a load every alternate night. It takes 5 minutes to load up a machine and hit start and you can use the time it takes to finish the load to eat dinner, watch a show or take a shower. This also ensures that you don’t have clothes thrown all over the room or house.

4. Fifteen Minutes A Day Is All You Really Need

Think of the things you can achieve in fifteen minutes. A lot right? So whether it’s waking up early or spending a little time before you go to bed, make it a habit to do some basic dusting and tidying up. While in the start it may be a struggle, eventually, it will become a habit.

5. Don’t Procrastinate

There is no time better than the present. The same rule applies when it comes to your house! If you’ve just eaten something, don’t leave it for later to wash the utensils; do it right away. Leaving dishes in the sink for a long period of time can cause the house to start smelling, breed unwanted pests and not to mention, it’s plain unhygienic. It all starts with a quick tune to the way you approach it.

6. Invest In Gadgets That Make Your Life Easier

While not everyone may be a tech freak, you can’t deny the fact that they do make our lives a lot easier. Consider investing in a vacuum cleaner, washing machine, dishwasher, steam iron, etc. These little gadgets can help make these mundane, and otherwise time-consuming chores, quicker and manageable.

7. Have Multiple Storage Areas

If you’re a person who has a lot of stuff, consider getting extra storage space. Just having a big closet sometimes may not be enough. Think of getting furniture with inbuilt storage space. This helps you designate certain spaces as for all your stuff. It’s important to note that once you put something away, don’t forget about it. Keep going through your stuff to get rid of things you don’t need anymore.
