Everyday, we lather on day creams, serums, moisturisers and all of this still isn’t good enough for our skin. Because even the most expensive products won’t mean a thing if you don’t correct things from the ground up i.e your skin. Without even realising it, here are a few small ways you might be causing harm to your skin.

1. Cleaning your phone screen

We’re addicts when it comes to our phones. And while we cannot live without them, we must learn to limit the amount we touch the phone to our face (Mothers everywhere are rejoicing). Cell phones carry more bacteria than a stale piece of bread… So, to keep those acne breakouts at bay, whip out your headphones the next time you take a call.

2. Washing your makeup brushes

One of the worst things you can do is use the same makeup brushes over and over again. It causes more harm than good—Because let’s face it, cleaning brushes can be quite a drag. But what you need to know is that, using the same brush could cause breakouts due to the bacteria that latches on.

3. Ignoring the ingredient list on a product

While we blindly trust whatever products our favourite brands come out with, it’s usually not the best practice. Even if your skin isn’t sensitive, it’s important to pay attention to the ingredients. Identifying what works for your skin type will be beneficial for you in the long run. Stay away from sulphates, synthetic fragrances and parabens that can clog your pores and strip your skin’s surface.

4. Indulging in sugary meals

Ever noticed a burst of breakouts on your skin just after a meal? It’s most probably the ingredients in the food you just ate. Your diet can affect your skin in many ways. Excessive amounts of sugar can cause acne as sugar tends to increase insulin levels, which in turn leads to a bad skin reaction.

5. Forgetting to wash your face after a workout

Whether it’s cardio or yoga, the sweat that builds up on your skin’s surface can block your pores, leading to potential acne growth and blackheads. That’s why it is essential to wash your face once you get home from a workout.

6. Showering with steaming hot water

While bathing with steaming hot water can be relaxing, washing your face with it won’t do your skin any good. Pipping hot water can dry out your skin leaving it dehydrated and rough.

7. Touching your face often

If you’ve ever noticed random blemishes and zits on your face, it might be due to excessive touching. Sometimes, people touch a part of their face out of sheer habit. But to limit the amount of acne and marks, you must keep your hands off your face!

It’s never too late to learn from your mistakes. So cut these bad habits out of your life and you’re on your way to clearer, healthier skin.
