Not all of us like climbing and being adventurous, but for those who love the greenery, being out in nature and the sense of achievement and pride after completing a long trek, the following list is a must. For the ones who like the view from the top, we’ve curated the state’s best trekking spots for those who love the thrills of mountain climbing.

1. Kalsubai Peak

This is one of the highest peaks in the Sahyadri range.

Area: Igatpuri
Height: 5,400 ft.

2. Sandhan Valley Trek

It is also known as Valley of Suspense or Valley of Shadow, as it is one of the greatest canyons around the Sahyadri range.

Area: Igatpuri
Height: 4,255 ft.

3. Ratangad Fort

This trek is a difficult one. It passes through the village and takes you through the fort. This fort is located in Ratan Wadi.

Area: Ratanwadi
Height: 4,255 ft.

4. Harihar Fort

This trek is not that long, but it is tiring. The fort is situated on a triangular shaped rock that could be steep during the monsoons.

Area: Nashik
Height: 3,676 ft.

5. Lohagad Fort

This trek is relatively easier than the rest. It could be completed in a day. Lohagad means The Iron Fort in Marathi.

Area: Near Lonavala
Height: 3389 ft.

6. Tung Fort

Located near the Pawana Dam, this fort is cone-shaped and has steep climbs with a very narrow route on the edge of the mountain.

Area: Pune
Height: 3,527 ft.

7. Naneghat Trek

This is located near Junnar in Pune. The name means ‘coin pass’ because this path was used as a toll for traders crossing these hills.

Area: Pune
Height: 2,750 ft.

8. Duke’s Nose Trek

This was earlier known as Nagphani but is now known as Duke’s Nose after Duke Wellington. This is a cliff in Khandala and is an easy climb.

Area: Near Lonavala
Height: 3,200 ft.
