It’s that time of the year when we pack our most fashionable wardrobe, hope to dodge the excess baggage line and head to the country’s capital. With nothing but one mission to cover the best at Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2018; bringing you tons of fashion inspiration. The illustrious fashion week has a mix of noteworthy designers that increase our fashion appetite every year and some young blood that expand our concepts with their fresh creativity. So you can imagine our excitement when the first day of AIFW was everything we hoped for and more. Here’s a run-through of all the enthralling shows we saw sitting front row.
1. Samant Chauhan
All these years, the designer has shown outstanding understanding by using white as his canvas and elaborating it with colours and textures. The collection tied back to his memories from his childhood of alternating between light and dark. Hence we see it marvel in the absence of colour with a witty play of darkness in silhouettes and contours.
2. Anupama Dayal
The designer who is known for her colourful art with adventurous motifs and prints also gave us a spin on the famous traditional weave of Lucknow—Chikankari. The show alternated between colour and white on white contemporary silhouettes. From long-form kurtas to beach cover-ups, the collection had something for every soul.
The collection drew inspiration from the culture of Uzbekistan. We deeply appreciated the Uzbek patterns and embroidery on new age silhouettes. The mix of colourful embroidery with edgy fringes and textures, really made the collection stand out for every girl who always craves a little statement.
4. Abraham & Thakore
The much-awaited show of Abraham & Thakore showcased its investigation from the streets of Delhi. The collection named #SadakSmart was influenced by the diversity of the city’s colours, pageantry and art. The line had some stellar pieces we’d want to see in our wardrobes.
5. Adarsh Gill
The collection was inspired by 1950’s Parisian fashion, adapted by icons like Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn and Fiona Campbell. The pieces were interspersed with classic style and modern forms holding relevance in today’s high-paced fashion industry.
6. Shymal & Bhumika
The collection set against a dark forest showcased the drama of autumn. As the deep colour palette of heavy greens, wines romanced twilight blues. The botanical silk skirts, flowing organza sarees and statement velvet lehengas caught our attention. The muse of the show Diana Penty completed the affair in a velvet top and a bottle green skirt with intricate embroidery all over. Simply splendid!
7. Ashish N Soni X Gauri & Nainika
For the first time, two prodigious designer labels—Ashish N Soni and Gauri & Nainika showcased their collection together on the runway. The one thing that tied them together was the slayage caused by Vaani Kapoor who walked in the showstopper outfits for both the designers. Ashish N Soni showcased a stupendous collection of pitch black and pure whites for men while Gauri & Nainika amazed us with powerful feminine designs.
