10 Trends To Upgrade Your Wardrobe As Approved By The AIFW Runway

Prashansa Daniell

One of the main reasons why we love fashion week is how we see world-wide fashion trends come to life. Whether we’re talking about a particular kind of shoe or an embroidery pattern or even something as simple as a pleat. Through four energetic days of Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2018, we saw these trends come to life on the runway. It didn’t matter if the collection was desi start to finish, or one that was inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s style in the 1950’s, when it came to trends, every collection had a connection and we loved it.

1. Thigh-High Boots

This trend is being worn by Instagram influencers, the hottest international models and our very own Bollywood actresses too. So when we saw thigh-high boots being strutted down the runway, at Pinnacle by Shruti Sancheti, Not So Serious by Pallavi Mohan, Patine and more, we knew this trend was a keeper.

2. Bum Bags

Other than seeing street style filled with Gucci Fannies, Moschino bum bags, we spotted them on the runway too. Namrata Joshipura made sure she kept her style feminine yet sharp with a sequinned pink bum bag while Dhruv Vaish opted to showcase one that was double sided and structured.

3.  Quilted Fabric

This is the kind of fabric that is probably the most popular in the winter—it’s warm, fashionable and with the styles we saw on the AIFW runway, it is guaranteed to get to you all the attention. Abhishek Paatni’s fully quilted jump/tracksuit, Abhi Singh’s quilted skirt and top combo and his bags too, this winter-approved fabric is all you’ll need for the upcoming cold season.

4. Checkered Prints

We all have our fair-share of checkered shirts and pants, some, blazers too. But this seasons showed us how to wear this classic print in so many different way. Layered with a trench at Sahil Aneja, Vineet Bahl brought a fresh take with his dress and cape combo, and Dhruv Vaish showed menswear could be statement worthy with a fully checkered suit like this one.

5. Fringe

We couldn’t help but take a boomerang every time we saw a model strut down with a shimmy-worthy outfit like these. Whether they were lined to blouses, the pallu of a sari or simply left hanging from a dress, we saw various versions of this fringe dominate the runway and how.

6. Gloves

Defiance by Adarsh Gill set the tone for his show with ’50s themed music, clothes, and eyewear too, hence, gloves were a welcomed addition. But we especially loved the play of gloves at Ilk’s show (gloves paired with a sari), in Vineet Bahl’s line (half biker gloves) as well as at Not So Serious by Pallavi Mohan (classy evening gloves).

7. Velvet

If we’re being completely honest, wearing this fabric can be extremely unstylish if worn wrong. But the way we saw it being worn on the ramp, in minimal as well as maximal style. Crafted into jackets at Sid Tytler to sari blouses at Shymal & Bhumika—we saw this classy fabric being worn in such versatile ways.

8. BnW Palette

This classic palette took centre stage at Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2018. Jackets, kaftans, skirts, saris and more looked ethereal as ever crafted by Pawan Sachdeva, Malini Ramani, Samant Chauhan, Saaj by Ankita, Samant Chauhan, Abraham Thakore, Nitin Bal Chauhan.

9. Belts

After we saw the Off-White belt ruling the street style in New York, Milan and Paris, we saw Sahil Aneja take this similar style of the XXL belt and made it his own. We were also crushing on the big bow belt at Sid Tytler, while others like Rabani & Rakha, Shivan Narresh amongst others brought the belt into indian wear like its no big deal.

10. Pantsuits

Now, this is one trend that we’re saying yes to in every way possible. We’ve seen Bollywood divas work their magic in it, and seeing it on the AIFW runway only made our hearts happier. We saw the classic version of the pantsuit, as well as upgraded versions like below, spotted at Ilk, Kanika Goyal, Abraham & Thakore as well as Patine.
