We live in a world so advanced that we can find dates by swiping right or left. The only thing we don’t realise on these apps is if our match is compatible with us. However, a new platform that uses Artificial Intelligence to not only find your life partners but also make sure you are compatible has been introduced and it goes by the name of Betterhalf.ai. Isn’t this giving you a Black Mirror vibe?
Betterhalf finds your ideal match with the intent of getting married and it is the first matchmaking startup in India to use Artificial Intelligence/machine learning for working professionals to find each other through true compatibility scores based on relationship dimensions and their interactions on the product. As the users offer feedback through private ratings, their matches become more compatible overtime.
How it all started
The startup was founded by two MIT (Massachusetts Institute Of Technology) graduates and friends, Pawan Gupta and Rahul Namdev. While Pawan went to business school, Rahul went to engineering school. They discovered the idea while they were searching for partners on a matrimonial site. Their friends were going through the same issue.
They observed that other apps and sites directly reached the matching process, which is the last step of the partner search journey and no one spoke about the process to reach that last step. That is what they have done with Betterhalf, which involves a step by step process to find your true compatible match.
They began their venture in 2016 and almost shut down twice because of no funding. However, due to their sheer resilience and dedication, they have successfully raised $300k and are backed by MIT/ HBS (Harvard Business School)/ Berkeley Alums and the TiE Angels.
How it works
The app works on the basis of 3 unique features:
- It provides verified matches with working professionals working at top-notch companies like Google, Facebook, Amazon, LinkedIn, Adobe, Accenture etc. The profiles are authenticated through six levels of verification like LinkedIn, Facebook, personal email, phone number, work email and Government ID.
- True compatibility scores are calculated based on six-relationship dimensions – emotional, social, intellectual, relationship, physical and moral values.
- Private ratings and feedback by users, in addition to their authentication program, helps in filtering out the non-serious and creepy daters from the platform, thus making it safe and secure.
Step-by step process of how to go about it
Step 1
The user completes registration and fills information for six-relationship dimensions, for eg, kind-hearted, religious, dominating, social etc.
Step 2
The user sees their own profile with the focus on verification as well as the six-relationship dimensions.
Step 3
The user sees matches with overall compatibility information (eg: 83% with Ankit, 91% with Rohit, 67% with Vaibhav etc.)
Step 4
The user sees a detailed profile and compatibility of verified matches. (eg: 93% compatibility of Melbin Kuriakose means 81% on emotional level, 97% on intellectual, 78% on values & beliefs , 62% on values, 95% on relationship and 85% on physical)
Step 5
The user sends connect request to matches and sees chat screen once requests are accepted.
Step 6
The user pays through payment network to chat with matches.
The app will be out by mid-May on Android and iOS and we can’t wait to explore this cool technology!
