#HappinessHacks: Appreciating The Smaller Things In Life

Happiness is a lot more than just a mood. It is a state of well-being that has a huge impact on your life. But let’s be real for a minute— life isn’t fair! We’ve all got problems that we need to deal with and we’ve all got our demons to fight. It’s like a weird roller coaster that has some pretty crazy ups and some equally scary drops. Given the kind of life we live and the things we go through, with all the hustle and bustle, we forget about the most important thing— happiness.

While we run around trying to figure out life, we often end up overlooking small-yet-significant things. These things could be as small as eating your favourite chocolate or indulging in a cheat meal. At that moment, all we feel is content and don’t think about how much it really means. This small little event may seem insignificant at the time but these are the things that actually hold a lot of value. For ages, we’ve been told to look and think about the bigger picture but what they forgot to add, is the fact that we need to pay just as much attention to the smaller one. It’s important to remember that life isn’t just about big gestures, over the top emotions and life-defining moments. Sometimes, it’s the little things that bring you the most joy, like a walk on the beach.

When you feel like there isn’t much going on in the happiness department, try and think of the smaller moments that brought about the feeling of happiness. These special moments may not have lasted as long, but when put together, can bring you a real sense of joy, like every time you listen to your favourite song on the radio. That being said, it’s not like you need to stop considering the big events in life. Think of this as a wake-up call! It’s a wake-up call that shows you just how much you’re missing out on in life. Open your eyes, start paying attention to things that you wouldn’t normally pay attention to. While happiness is a feeling it’s also a perception. Understanding that and widening your perception about life and things will, in turn, allow you be a lot happier.
