To say that Avengers: Infinity War is simply one of the best and most ambitious movies ever made, would be a gross understatement. For something that has been 10 years in the making and has spanned across many movies, this crossover is nothing short of a work of art. We can’t remember the last time a movie actually left us shaking. If you think we’re exaggerating, we encourage you to watch the movie and then tell us how you’re holding up. Reviewing this movie is like walking through a minefield. Almost everything is a spoiler! So, to keep it simple and spoiler-free, we’ve broken down the entire movie, to help you understand it better.
1. The Crossover
With a movie this large and spanning across so many characters, we were worried that they’d rush the whole thing and suddenly all the characters would be together. That’s clearly not the case! What Infinity War manages to pull off is a seamless integration of all the vital characters. One could argue that the movies on each character help tie everything together. However, it’s still a monumental task assembling everything. Nothing felt rushed; no one suddenly popped up out of nowhere, leaving us with a blank space to fill. In fact, it’s so engaging that you won’t realise how quickly two and half hours went by.
2. The Pace Of The Movie
You know how some movies like to control the pace and then give sudden bursts of energy? Yeah, Infinity War picks you up and throws you in the deep end right from the start. And unapologetically so. From the get-go, you’re on your toes and when s**t actually starts to go down, you’re like “Woahhh!”. Remember the keyword to associate yourself with for this movie is, shaken. That said, neither the pace nor the interactions seem odd or out of place. It’s as if your entire life has led up to this moment. Legit.
3. The Humour
While some movies have a tendency to go overboard with the humour they cram in, this movie has literally mastered subtlety. You’ll find yourself smiling and laughing with the well-placed and well-timed humour. From the pop culture references to the arguments, everything is so well put together, you almost forget the fact that there are some bad guys to fight. The best part for us was the fact that the humour wasn’t forced. It feels like the actors were just told to wing it because it feels very natural.
4. The Emotional Rollercoaster
Prepare yourself. Literally, that’s all we can say if you don’t want us spoiling this for you. We know there are a lot of theories and rumours out there about what is going to happen but trust us, nothing prepares you for what actually happens. Believe it or not, at some point in the movie, you’ll actually even feel bad for Thanos. This movie really knows how to tug on your heartstrings.
5. The Action
Sure there is a storyline for the movie. But, let’s be honest, most of us are here for the action and boy does this movie deliver. Almost every single character kicks ass. Once the ball gets rolling, it’s never stopping. You can actually see just how much effort has gone into getting these scenes right and it really pays off. There is one scene in particular that actually made everyone gasp! Literally, gasp! So you can imagine how epic it was. The most badass? Pretty sure Scarlet Witch and Dr Strange fans are going to jumping all over.
6. VFX
Unlike Thor: Ragnarok, which had slightly choppy VFX, this one seems impeccable. Considering most movies use VFX, it’s important for studios to realise how vital it is and that even the regular audience, know a thing or two about it. Avengers: Infinity War held nothing back on the VFX budget. It’s jaw-dropping and has literally set a new standard for movies.
7. Thanos
Yes, he is indeed as bad as they say he is. However, he isn’t just some mindless thug who wants to destroy the world and you get to see that. The fact that they managed to bring such a complexity to a bad guy, given everything that is going on in the movie, just makes this all the more special. It’s pretty easy to write off a villain but Thanos is given some time and love. This, in turn, helps him settle in and helps make sense to the whole plot.
8. Reactions & Synopsis
For a “comic book” movie to have such an impact and literally leave us feeling weak in the knees, is truly something else. Sure it’s something we’ve been building up in our heads all these years, but nothing prepares you for Infinity War. It is a beast of a completely different level. Honestly, forget everything you think you know about it because absolutely nothing prepares you for what happens.
9. Marvel
It’s going to be hard for anyone to be able to touch this movie. Of course Avengers: Infinity War 2 will, but nothing else is coming close to the records of this movie, anytime soon. We’ve got to hand it to them! Well played Marvel, well played! We can’t tell you why, but at the end of the movie, think about “how it all started”. You’ll get it then. As someone in the movie says, ‘ we’re in the endgame now!’.
