The Spa Ritual That Transported Me To Bali

Weekends are for staying in, Netflixing and going to the spa. So allow me just share with you my spa visit last weekend that was of the extra special kind. JW Marriott Sahar held a seasonal pop-up that transported my mind and body straight to Bali through their authentic Balinese Spa Ritual. With a compete zen and tranquil state of mind, I write this blog post to tell you about my experience, and how this spa day is really something that everyone needs to try!

As I stepped into a dim-lit room filled with fragrant incense and Balinese-chime, bamboo flute music, my body instantly attuned itself to a calmer and more relaxed state. The spa ritual had me lay, face down on a slightly heated massage table that made me feel like I was inside of a very comfy cocoon. Then, the massage therapist (who was flown in from Bali) slowly and with excellent hand pressure made her way to the different parts of my body, easing up the ares of tension and opening up the muscles.

The 45-60 minute deep tissue treatment was followed by some one-on-one time with my own thoughts, a cup of herbal tea and a great seat with a view of JW‘s architecture. All in all, it was a day that left me completely stressed-free and ready for an extended afternoon siesta.

*The Balinese Spa Pop-Up is available  from the 11th to the 20th of May at Spa By JW Sahar. But you can avail the traditional Balinese massage on their regular menu as well.

Now, for those who need more information, here’s it is:

1. The Balinese massage typically begins with a foot ritual. This starts with cleansing the feet in warm water with an aromatherapy foot wash and progresses into a sea salt bath with peppermint essential oils.

2. This full body massage includes deep tissue pressure technique with the aromas of essential oils. A mix of aromatherapy, gentle stretches, accu-pressure and reflexology makes the body slip into a calm and relaxed zone.

3. The variety of techniques include skin rolling, kneading, Balinese pressure, palm
pressure, stroking, and pressure point stimulation combined.

4. The massage boosts blood circulation and helps reduce stress while rebalancing the body. The aromatic oils facilitate positive energies within the mind and leaves one feeling refreshed.
