Veere Di Wedding made a strong opening in the theatres last Friday. The lead actresses, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania are all in the news because of the same. However, right before its release, the news about Veere Di Wedding being banned in Pakistan led to a lot of conversation on social media. Swara, who is one of the leads in the film also expressed her opinion on it which stirred up a storm on the internet.

Here’s what she had said:

They’re (Pakistan) a non-secular state. I’m not surprised at all. Why should we hold up Pakistan, which is a failing state – I don’t understand why we keep taking pleasure and feeling a sense of self-worth from all the silly things that happen in Pakistan.

A Pakistani actress by the name of Urwa Hocane also reacted to it:

The other day, Swara’s best friend Sonam was quoted in an interview saying:

I think people just like to troll her because she has an opinion and a point of view and I guess that shows how much they love her because the other side of hate is always love, so Swara you have a lot of lovers!

Many sites and portals reported it as her response to the flak Swara was receiving for her comments on Pakistan. A Twitter handle tweeted about it:

To which an upset Sonam replied:

It seems that Sonam was responding to the backlash Swara was subjected to because of her masturbation scene in Veere Di Wedding.

On the box-office front, the movie has been doing quite well.
