Dad. The word itself is special because of how the person who plays that role in our life is. Right from the day we are born, most of us are lucky enough to have a hero who will always be there for us without complaining or expecting a reward. While every father is different in the outlook and their way towards life but on the inside, they’re all the same, full of warmth and love. Sometimes, they are our closest friends and sometimes, the most strict people in our lives but there’s no doubt that they deserve to be celebrated for every little thing they do.
Bollywood films have also had dads who even though had stark differences on the surface, were just the same amount of AWESOME! They’ve taken disguises, broken rules and sometimes even made stricter ones but they’ve always managed to give us life lessons that will always stay with us. Ready to get all emo?

Anupam Kher aka Dharamvir Malhotra is probably on the coolest dads Indian cinema has ever seen. He was a rule breaker and always followed his heart. He even taught his son, the notorious Raj to live life the same way, without any fear and to wear his heart on his sleeve. He didn’t just inspire his son to fight for his love but also joined him in getting his girl. Matlab behadd cool!
2. Kamal Haasan In Chachi 420
Kamal Haasan played the role of Jaiprakash Paswan and Laxmi Godhbole! If you’re a 90s kid this is going to bring back all the sweet memories of how the dad, when separated from his daughter, took on a disguise as an older woman so he could be her nanny. The movie and Haasan’s character showed us that a father could go to any lengths to be close to and protect his child.
3. Farooq Sheikh In Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
The late, Farooq Sheikh was a dad anybody would love to have. He would stay up at night until Bunny aka Ranbir Kapoor reached home. He tried to set rules but was always willing to bend them for his son’s passion. He taught Bunny to never stop dreaming and to chase after his dreams. That’s pretty amazing, isn’t it?
4. Amitabh Bachchan In Piku
Amitabh Bachchan played the role of Deepika Padukone‘s father, Bhashkor Banerjee in Piku. The two shared a bond and a relationship like most of us do with our dads. Arguing, laughing and just sharing the funniest moments with each other. The best thing about Bhashkor was how open and forthcoming he was about his daughter’s dating life. Most of us aren’t comfortable sharing these things with our parents and I think every girl would love to have a dad with whom she could share her dating troubles too!
5. Mahavir Singh Phogat In Dangal
Aamir Khan played the role of a daunting father in Dangal. He pushed his daughters to have a dream and a vision and made sure they had enough dedication to turn it into a reality. He could be really strict at times but in his heart he wanted his daughters to make the country proud. Not all dads are so easy going but if you try to understand why they’re doing what they’re doing, you’ll see that their strictness is only out of love.
6. Rahul Khanna In Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
Rahul Khanna has made it to the list because of how goofy and adorable he was with his eight-year-old daughter. The way he’d join her in her shenanigans to the way he’d fly across the globe if she fell sick. Everything he did for her was just pure unadulterated love. He truly treated his darling daughter like a princess and a little (or a lot) pampering never hurt anyone, right?
I am going to say it again, everything our dads so is out of love and concern for us. So here’s a big shout out to all the amazing dads out there who are nothing short of a hero and inspire us with everything they do!
