Are you planning on moving to a new place soon? If you’ve moved a few times already, you know just how crazy it can get. However, if you’re new to the whole packing and moving thing, you’re in for a pretty tough time! The first night when you move in is usually really really crazy and you rarely have enough time to unpack absolutely everything! So, here are some of the most basic essentials that will help you pull through the first few days of the move. While these may seem basic AF, you’d be surprised just how often they are overlooked.

1. Basic Cleaning Supplies

No matter how clean you think your new place might be, you’re still going to need to do a basic clean-up once you’ve shifted in. There is going to be dust all around and you need to make sure you’ve got it handled. While you’re unpacking, having to clean might be overwhelming. You don’t have to pack every single thing but stuff like a handheld vacuum, a few rags, room freshener and maybe a broom as well, are all things you should keep handy.

2. Hangers, Stickers & Hooks

While this may seem like something that isn’t as important, it’s actually something that will save you from some major frustration. It’s advised that you pack all of these in one box and make sure you label it pretty clearly. Hooks and stickers are pretty easy to place around the house and then you can start building from there. Also, you can have your work clothes hung up immediately instead of running around trying to figure out where to put them.

3. Power Bank, Chargers & Spare Batteries

The night before you move into your new place, make sure you pack all your chargers, power banks and some spare batteries. The thing is, you can never be a 100% sure of what the situation at your new place is going to be. The batteries can come in handy for other gadgets around the house, that could make your life a little easier. The power situation tends to be a bit flakey especially during the monsoons, so it’s always better to be prepared.

4. The First Night Bag

The first night bag is one of the most important things that you should remember to pack. Anyone who has had a shifting nightmare knows that when you’re in the new place, it’s pretty tough to get everything out. You don’t want to be stranded without know what is where. Your first night bag should contain your toothbrush, toothpaste, bathing essentials, change of clothes and a bottle opener. Yes, a bottle opener! You’re obviously going to be celebrating your new place so don’t get caught off-guard when you can’t find a bottle opener. You should also consider packing some snacks in the bag. They usually come in handy.

5. Toolkit

We can’t all sit around waiting for the carpenter to come in. A toolkit is one of the most basic and most essential things to remember while moving. It allows you to get a headstart on things. You could assemble your furniture, hang up your paintings, etc. Also, it saves you a lot of time and money. Add a little utility knife in there as well so that you can open boxes easily rather than struggling with the tape.

Shifting into a new home is a task on its own and anything that can make your life simpler should be welcomed! What do you think is the most essential thing to pack before moving? Let us know in the comments below.
