Karan Johar announced his next directorial venture a few days ago and going by the look, title and Karan’s tweet about the same it is something he’s never done before. It’s not a love story, in fact, Karan told the world that it’s a story embedded in history and an epic battle for the majestic Mughal throne. Looks like Karan’s taking a leaf out of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s book and I am so shook! Let me just begin by saying that I can’t wait for the movie already and he has merely announced the cast of the film and what a cast that is!

The movie will feature Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Anil Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor and will release in 2020. If you’re wondering how you’re going to hold on till then, don’t worry. We’ll be here to bring you titbits and deets from the sets of course. Recent reports in DNA suggest that news of which star will be playing which character has been revealed and it’s is proof that this movie is going to be next level.

Check it out.

Anil Kapoor As Shah Jahan

Bollywood Hungama recently reported that Anil Kapoor will be seen playing the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the film. While the emperor is widely known for having built the Taj Mahal for his beloved wife Mumtaz, he is also been called one of the ablest emperors of the Mughal dynasty. He was later imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb during the fight for the throne.

Ranveer Singh As Dara Shikoh

After Bajirao Mastaani and Padmaavat, Ranveer will be seen another historical drama as Dara Shikoh aka Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal’s eldest son. Apparently, he was favoured over Aurangzeb to be the rightful owner of the throne but he got defeated and killed by his younger brother Aurangzeb in the battle for the throne.

Vicky Kaushal As Aurangzeb

It’s probably because Ranveer just recently played the barbaric Alauddin Khilji that he opted out of another beast like ruler figure. It will be amazing to see Vicky Kaushal essay the ruthless ruler.

Kareena Kapoor Khan As Jahanara Begum

Kareena will be seen playing Aurangzeb and Dara Shikoh’s elder sister Jahanara Begum. Apparently, Jahanara was known for her hold over matters in the Mughal court and was known for her outspoken nature. While we’ve seen Kareena play various kind of roles, this will be the first time that the actress will be seen in a magnum opus such as this.

Alia Bhatt As Begum Nadira Banu

Alia Bhatt will be seen playing a Mughal Princess Begum Nadira Banu who is the wife of Dara Shikoh. This will mean that Alia and Ranveer will be seen together again in Takht after Gully Boy. No complaints there!

Bhumi Pednekar

Rumours say that Bhumi will be paired opposite Vicky as his first wife Dilras Banu Begum. This will be Bhumi’s first stint in a historical drama as well.

Janhvi Kapoor

Janhvi Kapoor is rumoured to play a helper girl in one of the female harems in the Mughal empire. After Dhadak, this will be an entirely different avatar that we will be seeing her in.

With a star cast as vast and brilliant, characters and storylines as intense, this is going to be one helluva movie for sure.
