It goes without saying just how traumatic an experience it may have been for Tanushree Dutta to go through the harassment that she went through. Not only was she brave enough to speak out about it back then, but it also shows how determined she is to tell everyone how no one should keep quiet even if the time has passed. Women who’ve gone through abuse are used to hearing all sorts of things like “Are you sure it happened?” or “Maybe you shouldn’t report it, think about your future” or “Why didn’t you speak about it back then?”. And Tanushree in a span of 2 weeks have gone through all of this from all quarters, I’m sure. But, it’s heartening to see that Tanushree has held her ground showing us that she won’t back down this time. While many Bollywood stars like Farhan Akhtar, Richa Chaddha, Swara Bhasker, Twinkle Khanna, Kunal Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Priyanka Chopra were seen coming out in support for Tanushree on social media.

While there were those who came out in support for Nana Patekar too like Horn Ok Pleasssss‘ director, choreographer and Rakhi Sawant (Major eye roll). Now, finally, the producer of the movie Sami Siddiqui has responded. His response is nothing short of majorly sexist and this exact mentality is what I assume created such an uncomfortable work environment for Tanushree.

Times Now conducted a sting operation on Sami Siddiqui and on asking him about the Tanushree’s allegations against Nana Patekar, he said,

Should I tell you the truth? I feel that day she was on her periods.

Take a look at the video.

I can’t help feel disappointed, furious and sad. Is this what women actually need to go through to get justice? And a producer who is supposed to be in charge of the dismisses the claims by saying probably the most sexist statement ever. Because a woman has no control when it comes to her hormones or her monthly cycle, right?

But what more can we expect? The director of the movie Rakesh Sarang had also said that Tanushree was doing this because she may want to make a comeback into movies or Bigg Boss.

Tanushree had also revealed in an interview with DNA that Chocolate director Vivek Agnihotri had passed a lewd comment at her. But she said Irrfan Khan and Suniel Shetty shut him down.

He had said, “jao jaake kapde utaar ke naacho, usko cues do”

Irrfan reportedly had told the director that he doesn’t need Tanushree to take her coat off and dance for him to give any facial expressions. Tanushree also disclosed the fact that Suniel Shetty had scolded the director for speaking to her the way he did.

Let’s not forget that Vivek Agnihotri was in the news recently for his abusive tweet against Swara Bhasker. Following which he was forced to delete the tweet as Twitter blocked his account.

So you see how it is for women? Sure we’ve come a long way, no doubt. But incidents and regressive people like this throw us way back in time.

What are your thoughts on the whole issue?
