The festive season is officially upon us, and that means we have a load of weddings to attend, lots of parties to go to. Which in turn means, lots of outfit changes. Some might like to go the classic route and dress up in traditional sarees, lehengas, or salwar kameez, but why not try something new? We saw some really unconventional trends on the Lotus Makeup India Fashion Week SS’19 runway that could spruce up your festive wear. Check ’em out here:

1. Pair your lehengas with shirts

Give your usual saree blouses a break and try a metallic shirt or even a crisp white shirt with your lehenga if you’re headed out to a wedding reception or engagement party.

2. Use the layering trick on your sarees

Who said you can’t layer with desi wear? You needn’t go all out with a fully layered look like this one but take cues for your blouse or the half saree + belt combo and you’ll be sure to wow everyone you encounter.

3. Switch your saree blouse for a bikini top

Resort wear just got a desi upgrade and we love it. This double-pallu’d saree played perfect muse to a sexy strapless bikini top like this one. Try and pair your own sarees with bikini tops and let us know how it looked.

4. Ditch the dupatta

If you’re planning on getting something stitched this festive season or planning to pick up this Anushree Reddy lehenga, make sure to ditch your dupatta so you don’t take away from the detailing of the blouse.

5. Try a new saree drape

We saw the Mekhela Chador Silk draped in various ways at LMIFW, but this one was surely one of our faves. It seems comfy, stylish and perfect to wear to a wedding or cocktail party.

6. Layer with an oversized poncho

Speaking of adopting different kinds of blouses, this is another style you could try this festive season. Wear an oversized poncho or cape-styled top over your lehenga or dhoti pants to add an edge to your look.

7. Knot your pallu

We wouldn’t suggest you try this with silk sarees, but if you’re wearing a cotton saree or even a georgette one this festive season, tie a knot on the shoulder on your pallu for that extra fashion statement.
