No matter how different we are from each other, we all have one thing in common. That is our immense love and attachment to our school days and its memories. Sure, we always dreamt of growing up quickly, have jobs, meeting the love of our lives, acquiring the whole world when we were in school. But now when we’ve actually set foot in the adult world, man how we wish we could go back to those school days. Well for many of us, the one memory which we wish to relive again the most is the, *drumrolls*, recess time! There was food sharing, endless laughter, nonsense chatter, and lots of ridiculously fun games that we played. So, to make y’all a bit nostalgic today, here is a list of all those games we played. Now, let’s go through them, shall we?
1. Colour, Colour Which Colour
Also known as Chip Chop, Tippy Top, our origami skills to make this in a jiffy were real back then! Deciding which colour and number to choose was less stressful than today’s’ adult decisions, TBH! Can we go back to that life?
2. Hops And Bats
The devil sneakily residing in every kid’s soul came out during this game. Hit the other person for not informing you when they sit down by saying bats or stand up? We were all way too vicious for our age, gaiz! Growing up we realise how violent this game really was, no?
3. Fire In The Mountain
Run, run, run! Except there was no mountain. Only fire. Fire in our hearts that had us running like maniacs!
4. Uma Joshi
Clappity clap kids! We could lose memories of everything else but we would never forget the lyrics to this. “Uma Joshi, yay yay yay. My mother told me sixty years ago. There came a lady knocking at the door. With an ooh, aah, I want some pah…”
5. Dog And Bone
You had to be quick and attentive or you’d miss out on your bone! Fear did not exist in our hearts during this game.
6. Aankh Bandh Tapli
One person with closed eyes has to guess who slapped the back of their head! Of course, there was a lot of cheating and leg pulling involved particularly in this game.
7. Saakhli
Or known as Chain game for some of you. Saakhli was one crazy game. The struggle to keep up with the chain and not get dragged while you’ve crashed the ground already was scary, okay!
8. Jolly
No logic, no purpose and no explanation for when and how it became a trend in the classroom. You needed to have dot made by pen (no permanent markers allowed) on your palm and show it every time someone said ‘Jolly’ to you. If you don’t, you get whacked on your back.
9. Name Place Animal Thing
This is one of the very few games that did not involve slapping, kicking or knocking the brains out of each other! We’d finish our tiffins quickly and play until the recess bell rang, calling us back to our seats.
10. Red Hands
We’ve had our hands turn from red to blue thanks to this game.
