Fragrances have a way of taking me back in time. Whenever I come across the scent of jasmine, I’m instantly transported back to the time when I used to play in my grandmother’s room. Every monsoon, petrichor reminds me of the days I spent splashing about in the rain with my cousins. Thus, when it came to choosing my wedding scent, I knew I wanted something memorable. Here’s a list of the perfumes I narrowed down for my big day.

1. Chloé Fleur de Parfum

With notes of rose, verbena flower and cherry blossom, this fragrance reminds me of a lush garden. The inclusion of raspberry and almond notes blend beautifully to create a fresh, modern perfume with a slight tanginess. What I love the most about it is that it adds a layer of elegance, without being too overpowering.

2. Chanel N°5

As a child, I would steal a few spritzes of this perfume from my mother’s vanity. The mix of citrus, may rose and jasmine has always appealed to me. The fragrance makes me feel sophisticated and powerful in a way that no other has.

3. Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium

The minute I got a whiff of this perfume, I knew I had to have it. The heady blend of coffee, vanilla and white flowers smells absolutely decadent. Unlike many other perfumes, this one literally forces people to acknowledge your presence when you enter a room.

4. Marc Jacobs Daisy Love

I’ll be honest with you – initially, I picked up this bottle solely for the cute, daisy cap. Over time however, I fell in love with the scent. The delicate smell of daisies mingles easily with the sweetness of cloudberries to create a joyous fragrance. To keep things from getting too floral, the perfume also has base notes of cashmere musks and driftwood.

5. Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt

This crisp cologne always brings forth images of waves tumbling and crashing. Notes of ambrette seeds and sage add an earthiness, whilst sea salt keeps things fresh and lively. Since I’m an absolute beach bum, this spirited scent is definitely one that speaks to me.

Although I love all these perfumes, I knew I had to narrow it down to just one. After much debate over the Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium and Chanel N°5, I finally went with the latter for it’s iconic scent. The best part? My husband instantly recognises the fragrance as the one I wore at our wedding!
