I Have Tried Over 50 Red Lipsticks – Here Are My Favourites

Jyotika Udeshi

Is there any other makeup product that creates as much as a statement as a red lipstick does? Ever since I dipped my toes into the world of beauty, this shade has drawn me in. Over the years, I’ve amassed countless tubes but lately, I’ve realised that I only use about 7 of them! Here are all the details about my favourite red lipsticks.

1. MAC Matte Lipstick In ‘Russian Red’

Let me get my controversial opinion out of the way – I actually prefer this lipstick to the classic ‘Ruby Woo’. This is solely because this formula is a lot less drying than the retro matte finish of the latter.

2. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream In ‘Amsterdam’

NYX’s liquid lipstick a true winner. The intensely pigmented formula goes on smoothly to give full coverage in just one swipe. Unlike several other liquid lipsticks, this one doesn’t shrivel up my lips or bleed easily.

3. Dior Rouge Dior Ultra Rouge Lipstick In ‘851 Ultra Shock’

This deep red is my go-to shade for date night. The creamy texture feels weightless and lush on my lips, whilst the luminous finish plumps up my pout. I usually pair it with one of my favourite black eye liners to amp up the drama.

4. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil In ‘Mysterious Red’

When I first heard about these lip pencils, I thought they were over-hyped. Turns out that I was absolutely wrong! Not only do they last for ages, but also provide a comfortable, matte finish that makes me feel more put together. Although I own several other shades, the medium red hue of ‘Mysterious Red’ is the only one I’ve actually repurchased.

5. Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color In ‘Regal’

Every girl has one lipstick shade that she always keeps in her bag – this is mine. The balm-like consistency allows me to apply this lipstick whilst I’m on the go, without any fear of messing up. Not only does the juicy, red hue bring in a ton of compliments, but also keeps my pout hydrated.

6. Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution In ‘Red Carpet Red’

If I was forced to just pick one lipstick, I would undoubtedly opt for this one! The ruby red hue looks beautiful when paired with a full face of makeup or when worn alone and has the most stunning, matte (but not flat) finish. Plus, the colour makes my teeth look whiter!

7. Sephora Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick In ’01 Always Red’

I bought this lipstick on a whim, but I haven’t regretted the purchase at all. The liquid formula provides opaque, non-sticky coverage that lasts on my lips for ages. I know I can rely on it to stay put throughout a long day, without flaking or smudging.
