India is recognised and appreciated globally for its rich culture, heritage, and architecture. You could go in any part of India and still be able to get a picturesque view to die for. And, New York Times’ 2019 list of must-see destinations just proved this right. The UNESCO world heritage site, Hampi, made it to the said list and bagged the 2nd spot.
Located in the southwestern state of Karnataka, Hampi has been one of the biggest tourist spots in India. You can find ancient temples and palace ruins in Hampi that date back to the 16th century of Vijayanagar Empire. It brought in more than 5 lakh tourists, which included 38,000 foreigners in 2016-17. To get to Hampi was fairly difficult earlier, but now that the Bellary airport has become functional, it’s easier for tourists from around the world to reach this beautiful destination.
The New York Times further talked about this and said,
Travellers can stay in the newly refreshed Evolve Back Kamalpura Palace or at Ultimate Travelling Camp’s new Kishkinda Camp, which introduced 10 stately tents in December. Outfitters Black Tomato and Remote Lands now offer journeys in the region, from guided archaelogical tours to rock climbing and river jaunts in the basket boats.
Hampi is the only Indian place that has made its way to this list. The other top places include- Puerto Rico, Santa Barbara, Panama, and Munich.
