After wrapping up approximately six hours of shuffling between backstage, runway and the media centre at Jio Garden in BKC, I began my sixteen-kilometer-long journey to Sophia College, Peddar Road for Shantanu & Nikhil’s Lakmé Absolute Ultimate Grand Finale.
I was a little extra excited not only cause I would get to watch Kareena Kapoor Khan sashay down the runway but also to see the college I graduated from in a different light—quite literally, actually. The set for the finale was nothing short of regal. Red lights from the high balconies shone down to change the ‘Sophia Pink’ shade of the palace to a dramatic red, setting the vibe for the show that was about to follow.
If there is one thing I paid extra attention to in this season of Lakmé Fashion Week (other than the mesmerising outfits that hit the runway), it was the choreography in each show. Considering Shantanu & Nikhil had such a magnificent space, I was so ready to see how each model as well as the showstopper, AKA Kareena Kapoor Khan, would strut around and showcase their equally magnificent ensembles.
As the lights dimmed and a live band played music that gave me all the majestic feels, models came in outfits that were worthy of the world’s appreciation. Check it out here:
Talking about their showcase, here’s what the designers had to say:
The signature S&N Androgynous Bandhgala has been reworked with exaggerated drapes, eclectic medallions and structured oversized shoulders. Recruit (the collection) arises from Shantanu& Nikhil’s India Story but carries forth the Final Salute of adherence that withstands feminine injustice of any sort.
To close the show, Kareena Kapoor Khan stepped out in an all-black, fitted strapless gown with the designer’s signature pleather detailing on the bodice. One might think that the showstopper’s outfit is often the most elaborate one, but what Shantanu & Nikhil did here was, keep it classy and regal with Kareena’s look—and TBH, I was all over it!
From the light to the sound to every outfit that was showcased on the runway, Shantanu & Nikhil‘s finale was one I will remember for a long, long time. What do you think of it? Do let me know in the comments below!
