The runway, IMHO should be seen as a place that is more than just a space where a designer showcases a new collection. Whether you’re sitting there watching a show live or tapping through Insta stories of the lineup, here’s what you should keep in mind.

  • The aim of the show is to tell you what a designer’s aesthetic and vibe for the season is.
  • The designer also incorporates worldwide fashion and beauty trends, blending them into their already existing collection.
  • The runway should be a learning space for you to identify what’s new.
  • Use it as a guide to pick out ‘trending’ clothes for a new season.

Keeping this in mind, here are a few of the trends I spotted on the LFW S/R’19 runway and how you can wear them.

1. Asymmetrical Is In

Just a few weeks before heading into fashion week I came across a new style of jeans called the Asymmetrical Jeans, but little did I know that this asymmetrical trend would also dominate LFW’s S/R 19 runway too. From asymmetrical dresses to blazers, skirts and more, we saw asymmetrical everything on the runway this season.

How you can wear it:

Like the runway showed you; dresses, skirts or shirts pretty much anything can fit into this trend. Tuck in only one side of your shirt to create this effect or even tie a scrunchie to a skirt/maxi dress to achieve the look.

2. Comfy Separates FTW

Here’s the thing about separates, they not only work together to make a striking OOTD but can be used to style various other looks separately too. Whether a pair of palazzo pants and embroidered top—one like Soha Ali Khan wore for Agami or Aikeyah’s cape and dhoti pants.

MM Style Tip:

While on your next shopping run, look for coordinates in similar prints or shades. Wear it together or ‘separately’ to create multiple statement looks

3. Headbands

The runway didn’t just showcase show us trends via the clothes but also focused on accessorising these looks keeping with them! Case in point, headbands! Rajdeep Ranawat showed us his version of swimming caps (Like Chanel did too, btw) Shivan & Narresh brought out bedazzled hairbands and Anavila’s knotted ones too.

MM Style Tip:

Accessories have the power to amp up any look you wear. So pick up a studded headband or a printed bandana wear it with a plain tee and a pair of denims and you’ve got yourself a runway-approved look!

4. Sheer’s The Way

Sheer is a big trend this year and the SR ’19 runway showed us that via the sarees, sarongs and more. Sheer materials help you pull off a look that is sexy, easy to wear in this hot season as well as stylish.

MM Style Tip:

As the runway spoke, there are more than a million ways to wear sheer this summer! Pick up your mum’s chiffon saree, wear a sheer dupatta as a stole, pick up a sheer bomber jacket and sport it with style!

5. Whites For The Season

Designers brought forth everyone’s summer go-to in various styles and silhouettes and reinstated my love for summer whites!

MM Style Tip:

Wearing lighter colours in the summer is my go-to ’cause it helps keep your body cool. So pick tones of beige, white, ivory, baby blue and more to keep it stylish and ‘cool’ (pun intended) this season.

6. Pockets On Errything

Is there even a need to explain this? Each time we spotted an outfit with pockets on the runway, Team MM would exchange looks of joy and happiness.
