Shah Rukh Khan in a still from Kal ho Na Ho
Shah Rukh Khan in a still from Kal Ho Na Ho

The reach and audience that Bollywood movies have is unbelievable. If you have travelled to any country outside India, you might have encountered locals of those countries mentioning Shah Rukh Khan or Amitabh Bachchan to you. As someone who has got an opportunity to study in the UK, I had friends from many different countries, and two of my close friends were German and Turkish. One of the first conversations we had were about our favourite movies and I was shocked when they mentioned 3 Idiots starring Aamir Khan was one of their favourites of all time.

Last year, I went to Georgia, a country at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe, and a couple of school children stopped me to ask for a picture and told me all about how they watch SRK, Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan every day on TV. Their link to India as a country is through these movies and that’s just amazing. More recently, I was reminded of all these incidents when I was scrolling through Twitter and I came across a bunch of Nigerian boys singing Bholi Si Surat from Dil Toh Pagal Hai.  Not only have they got the tune on point, but they’ve even got their Hindi diction to almost perfection. I absolutely loved this Nigerian cover of Bholi Si Surat.

Check it out:

But turns out this is not their first time trying a Bollywood song. And going by the choice of their songs looks like they’re huge Shah Rukh fans. I mean, who wouldn’t be? Before this, these boys have even tried their hand at the title track of  SRK’s popular film Kal Ho Na Ho. And it’s too good.

Take a look:

How cool is this?!
