What do Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Shraddha Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Jacqueline Fernandez and Kriti Sanon have in common? A really freakin‘ cool hairstylist! You probably know him from his impeccable work, his own set of fantastically styled hair, or from his cool Insta feed curation. Either way, Amit Thakur is one of the hottest celebrity hairstylists on the ‘gram. We caught up with him to answer a few pressing mane questions ,and here’s everything every girl needs to know!

What are the trendiest styles in Bollywood today?

When it comes to hair, our Bollywood celebrities are big on textured and beachy waves. You will very often see the leading ladies of B-town try a sleek hair look frequently as well.

Who has the best hair to work with in Bollywood?

That’s a tough one… Katrina, Deepika, Shilpa and Shraddha, all have great hair and different textures to work with! Nonetheless, if I have to choose one, it would be Deepika—her hair will work the way you want them to perfection.

Summer is almost here, which means extreme heat and humidity. What would be your top tips on how to tackle summer hair problems?

Here are a few things to keep in mind dealing with summer; first things first, ensure you are wearing a heat protection at all times. It is important as not only heat styling tools affect your hair but the direct sunlight and UV rays can also be harsh on your hair. I prefer the Kerastase Ciment Thermique.

Secondly, get yourself a good dry shampoo to deal with the greasy roots and flat hair. It’s the best way to freshen up the hair and add that volume and body instantly. My personal fav is the Tigi‘s Oh Bee Hive Matte dry shampoo.

What is your #1 haircare tip?

My number one haircare tip would be to protect your hair. Many styling tools come with excessive heat which damage your hair and it’s crucial to protect them from this heat for lost-lasting healthy hair. Dyson‘s Airwrap here is a perfect tool! It comes with no extreme heat thanks to the coandă effect and the best part is that your hair gets styled instantly with no damage.

3 hair products you can’t live without?

I can’t say three, but here are the four products I can’t live without. Like I mentioned earlier, a good cream-based heat protectant, a dry shampoo, a great hair dryer and a fixing hairspray. Currently, the one I’m loving is the L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni ART Airfix.

Debunk the biggest hair myth you’ve heard.

The biggest myth I’ve heard, especially from my clients is that their grey hair grows more after colouring or plucking them out. But it’s actually not possible! The fact of the matter is that after colouring your grey hair, the new hair starts to grow all over the head again, growing out the greys. A grey or white hair strand will always grow back, but it’s not because of colouring.

A celebrity-approved hair product every regular girl needs to own?

I think we don’t know how amazing it is to always have a good dry shampoo. It instantly freshens up the hair, takes care of the greasiness and also adds texture and volume.

Another product, you will spot all celebrities loving off late is the new Dyson Airwrap! It instantly curls the hair. It’s a fuss free machine which also doesn’t damage their hair, makes the style last all day long and takes half the time!

Any advice for aspiring hairstylists?

To all the people who want to get into hairstyling I would say it’s one of the most fun businesses to get into—it has a lot to offer in terms of travel, exposure and creativity. But only get into it if you really love it. Three things that helped me excel in my career, and also as a person, was observe, get inspired and let your creativity flow.

On a side note, let’s take some time out and appreciate Amit for his excellently toned bod
