Despite a Thursday release, Zoya Akhtar‘s much awaited film, Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt minted Rs. 18.70 crores on day 1 itself. The numbers are sure to go up over the weekend as movie-goers are visibly excited for the film and it has been getting rave reviews from the masses and classes.
Apart from that, it was premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and created quite a buzz there as well. Well, we kind of expected it to shatter all records as Zoya has a knack for storytelling. This is her fourth film in a decade – after Luck By Chance, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Dil Dhadakne Do – and she has managed to wow us yet again.
Gully Boy is based on the underground rap movement in India and is inspired by slum rappers of Dharavi, Naezy and Divine. It also stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Kalki Koechlin in pivotal roles and has been produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment in association with Tiger Baby.
