Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan were one of the most longstanding power couples in B-town. This is why everyone was shocked when they announced their separation after 18 years. But the two have managed to maintain an amicable relationship since then. While not much has been spoken about their separation, recently Malaika opened up about how people around her, including her family members, reacted when she told them about her decision to end her marriage. On her best friend Kareena Kapoor Khan‘s show What Women Want she finally revealed why they decided to call it quits.

She said,

For me, happiness is most important. Even if it means I have to take such a major decision in life. We eventually did think about a lot of things and weighed every single pro and con. And then we decided, it’s better off that we move our separate ways because we’d just be better people. Because we were two people in a situation making each other extremely unhappy which was impacting everybody else’s life around us.

When asked about how her 16-year-old son, Arhaan reacted to his parents’ separation, she said,

I would rather see my child in a happy environment than being in an environment that is completely disruptive. I think with time, my child is far more accepting and flourishing. And he can see that we both as individuals are far more happy.

She also opened up about how she made her family sit with her a day before her divorce and ask her if she was 100% sure. She also revealed that this was something everyone who cared about her asked her all throughout the process.

Arbaaz and Malaika tied the knot in 1998 and announced their separation in 2016. While Arbaaz has made his relationship with Georgia Armani official, Malaika is yet to open up about her rumoured relationship with Arjun Kapoor.
