Whatever side of the argument you’re on in the endless debate of dogs versus cats, I think everybody can agree on one thing: their general personalities are drastically different. And the best example of a trait in which they differ like chalk and cheese is that particular air of superiority that a cat has that a dog just doesn’t. A prime example of said regal, superior air is Choupette Lagerfeld, recently deceased Karl Lagerfeld‘s cat. Why do I say that you wonder? If you know, you know. If you don’t, you’re about to find out.
Meet Choupette Lagerfeld, a 9-year-old Birman that fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld loved so much, he actually wanted to marry, saying, “There is no marriage, yet, for human beings and animals… I never thought that I would fall in love like this with a cat.” And somehow that is not the most bizarre thing about this magnificent creature. Step into Bizzaro-land in 3, 2, 1…
First of all, she has 3 names. ‘Her name is Choupette, Princess Choupette or Miss Choupette,’ Lagerfeld shared with i.D magazine. Um, ya.
And a chef and a bodyguard. But of her two maids, Francoise and Marjorie, Francoise is said to be her favourite.
In a U.S. Harper’s Bazaar interview, Karl said, “She doesn’t like to eat on the floor, so I have to put the food on the table. Her dishes are by Goyard. She has one for water, one for her little croquette, and one for her pate.”
Can you imagine a cat with a penchant for antique lace?
Mr Lagerfeld also divulged that Choupette has a diary that is updated with her activities and overall moods that is useful for the veterinary doctor.
He said in the same Harper’s Bazaar interview, “The doctor does her manicure. She hates when we do it ourselves. The only time she makes a scandal is then.”
Meow there, influencer!
Lagerfeld even told French newspaper, Le Figaro that Choupette “has her own little fortune. She is an heiress”. She is going to inherit some of Karl’s 200 Million Dollar fortune.
She also has her very own iPad. I, on the other hand, are sitting here waiting for my iPhone 6S to die to justify buying a new one.
About 4 years ago, Lagerfeld did an interview with The Cut where he stated that his darling cat earned around $3.18 million from two projects, one for cars in Germany, and the other for a makeup line by Shu Uemura.
Shu Uemura was a Japanese make-up artist with an eponymous makeup line. In 2014, the company came out with Shupette, a makeup line inspired by this beloved Aristocat.
It is titled, Choupette: The Private Life of a High-Flying Fashion Cat by Jean-Christophe Napias. Patrick Mauriès
In 2012, Choupette did a 10-page fashion spread for V Magazine. But when Lagerfeld was asked about whether she was going to do any more, in an interview in The Independent he said, “She has become the most famous cat in the world. I even get propositioned by pet food companies and things like that but it’s out of the question. I’m commercial. She’s not. She’s spoiled to death. Obviously. ”
According to Karl.Com, “Named ‘Choupette in Love’, the capsule features Karl’s favourite feline with her new boyfriend, Bad Boy. They appear on clutches, bags, and other pieces.”
In conclusion, I just want to put out that Choupette wasn’t even originally Karl’s. Funnily enough, in a strange twist of fate, the universe brought these two divas together after Karl was asked to cat sit for his friend French model, Baptiste Giabiconi who was away abroad. So that simply begs the question, where is the twist of fate that’ll have a millionaire adopt me? JK, JK, JK!
