Sabyasachi Mukherjee released his Spring/Summer ’19 collection last week and I was nothing short of ecstatic. Apart from his Instagram editorial being starkly different from the previous seasons (bright, happy-faced models, blurry portraits, detailed jewellery shots etc) this time he also blended neons into Indian wear.
As each photo from this campaign spammed my feed (’cause who doesn’t love a good Sabya spam?!), part of me couldn’t wait to see celebrities and real #SabyasachiBrides wearing these pieces.
Much to my delight, Alia Bhatt donned a bright yellow lehenga from this SS’19 collection at the big fat Ambani wedding #2 i.e. Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta‘s big day! She wore a lehenga that the designer himself termed as an ‘acidic’ shade of yellow and TBH, it was the brightest thing I saw that evening.

Since she wore such a bright, bold colour, I really loved how minimal celebrity stylist, Ami Patel went on the accessories front. She simply styled it with only one choker necklace from Sabyasachi Jewellery and a potli bag—yup, no bangles or earrings either! Her messy updo by Amit Thakur, kohl-lined eyes and nude lips by Mehak Oberoi were the perfect elements that complemented this striking look.
Fashion Takeaway: If you’re planning to wear a look like this for the wedding season, take cues from Alia and go easy on the accessories. If the colour of your outfit is bright, or the work/embroidery on it is statement-making, pair it with accessories that complement the look rather than ones that have the capacity to be the centre of attention.
